The year 2025 has been declared the "Year of Environmental Protection and 'Green' Economy."

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in his speech at the session of the Legislative Chamber of the Supreme Assembly, addressed the issues of ecology and climate change.

According to the head of state, air and water pollution, soil erosion, desertification, and the excessive use of fossil fuels are leading to global warming, an increase in natural disasters, and harm to the environment and public health.

In response, three years ago, the “Green Space” nationwide project was launched in our country. Together with neighboring countries, the Regional Climate Strategy was initiated. The University of Central Asia for Environmental and Climate Change Studies was established in the capital.

Additionally, Uzbekistan became the initiator of two important resolutions adopted by the UN in this regard. At the same time, "green" energy is becoming one of the key drivers of our economy.

After carefully studying the opinions, thoughts, and wishes of our people, and taking into account the recommendations made, Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed declaring 2025 the “Year of Environmental Protection and ‘Green’ Economy” in our country.

The attendees fully supported this initiative, according to the official statement.

The government was instructed to develop a state program focused on the most important tasks outlined under the theme of the year.

This program is expected to prioritize issues such as the introduction of "green" technologies, water conservation, the significant expansion of green spaces, mitigating the consequences of the Aral Sea disaster, solving waste management problems, and, most importantly, strengthening public health.

It is worth noting that 2024 was declared the “Year of Supporting Youth and Business.”
